West Winds Concert Band

This Concert Band (previously called the BrizWest Concert Band) enjoys performing a wide range of music from many genres. Our repertoire includes arrangements of popular movie themes and musicals, classic marches, a few classical favourites, as well as some jazz standards and familiar pop tunes. We play at number of concerts throughout the year, including ANZAC Day memorials, fetes, carnivals and Christmas carols. Contact us if you would like us to perform at your event!

The Concert Band rehearses weekly during school terms on Wednesday nights 7:30-9:00pm at Rainworth State School, Bardon, in the Multi-Purpose Room. Members are requested to arrive 15mins early to help setup for rehearsal and warm-up/tune.

Members range in age from 16 to 60+. Most players have a few years experience by now; some have been playing for much longer. Whatever we play, we aim to really enjoy the music and have a lot of fun together.

Our Musical Director:

Sean Burke hails from Redlands, Queensland, and started learning trombone until he broke his collarbone when he was 13 and couldn’t operate the slide! So his teachers guided him in the direction of valved low brass, which he has played ever since. Sean studied music at University of Queensland and the Australian National Academy of Music and has performed with the Queensland Symphony, Wind, and Youth orchestras; the Australian Youth Orchestra; and West Australian Symphony Orchestra. Sean is also the conductor laureate and co-founder of the Australian Anime Orchestra and has worked with other local youth orchestras and ensembles in the past.
